Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالتُّقٰىٰ وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَىٰ

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or richness).

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This is a profound dua to recite regularly, especially in the morning after Fajr prayer, as it encapsulates comprehensive requests for spiritual and worldly well-being. It is particularly relevant when facing decisions about livelihood, career choices, or when feeling the pull of desires that might lead away from Allah's path.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as you would in supplication. Focus on the meaning of each word, truly asking Allah for His guidance, protection from sin (piety), purity of character and desires (chastity), and contentment with what He provides (contentment/richness).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is incredibly comprehensive. 'Al-Huda' is guidance towards the truth and acting upon it. 'At-Tuqa' is to guard oneself against Allah's wrath by obeying Him and leaving His disobedience. 'Al-'Afaf' is chastity and refraining from what is unlawful or degrading, particularly regarding wealth and desires. 'Al-Ghina' means being free from need, contentment with what Allah provides, and internal richness that is not dependent on excessive wealth but on Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). By asking for these four, one is seeking a balanced life, protected from the misguidance that often accompanies wealth and the temptations of this world.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment).
