اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ غِنَايَ حِجَابًا لِي مِنْ النَّارِ
O Allah, make my wealth a shield for me from the Fire.
Allahumma-j'al ghinaaya hijaaban li min an-nar
When to Read
This powerful dua is for anyone who has been blessed with wealth, no matter the amount. It's particularly poignant when reflecting on our blessings, or when we feel concerned about how our worldly possessions might become a source of heedlessness or sin. Reciting it consistently can help shift our perspective, reminding us to view wealth not just as a worldly gain, but as a potential tool for our salvation.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Believe that Allah has the power to grant your request. You can recite it at any time, but it's especially effective after Fard prayers, during the night, or whenever you feel a connection with Allah. Reflect on the meaning of wealth as a shield – it should protect you from the Hellfire, not lead you to it.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah to transform wealth, which can often be a test, into a means of protection from the Hellfire. It highlights the understanding that true wealth is that which brings us closer to Allah and His pleasure, safeguarding us from His punishment. It's a recognition that possessions are a trust from Allah, and we pray that He enables us to use them in ways that earn His mercy and protect us from His wrath.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'No person gives charity from his wealth, and his wealth does not increase except by his giving charity, and it does not increase except by his increasing it, and it does not increase except by his spending (in the cause of Allah). So, when you see a man who has nothing left but rags, and he gives charity from it, do not think that he has diminished his wealth. Rather, he has enhanced it. And do not say that his wealth has decreased, rather it has increased. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, make my wealth a shield for me from the Fire.'
