Rizq & Provision
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace of all save You.

Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly beneficial when you feel overwhelmed by financial pressures or when seeking to ensure your earnings are both lawful and sufficient. It's a prayer to seek Allah's help in having enough halal provision to avoid resorting to haram means, and to gain contentment and independence from relying on anyone but Him. Recite it after every prayer, or during times of need, particularly in the morning and evening.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, believing that Allah (SWT) is the ultimate provider. Raise your hands in supplication as you do for other duas. Maintain a state of purity (wudu) and face the Qiblah if possible. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to grant you sufficiency through His permissible means and to enrich you with His bounty so you are not dependent on others.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the core need for sustenance that is both lawful (halal) and abundant enough to keep one from falling into unlawful means (haram). It also seeks a deeper spiritual benefit: contentment and independence from creation, recognizing that true richness comes from Allah alone. By fulfilling one's own needs through halal means, one is better positioned to fulfill the rights of Allah (like giving zakah and charity) and the rights of His creation (like supporting one's family and being fair in dealings). This prayer fosters reliance on Allah and safeguards one from the temptations of illicit wealth and the neediness that comes from depending on people.

Source & Authentication

The hadith is narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A contract was drawn up for me with Muhammad (peace be upon him), and Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) came to me with a small pillow that was filled with idhkhir. Then a garment was brought, and he (peace be upon him) said: 'As for the garment, it is for you, and as for the pillow, it is for Fatima. Do not supplicate against me.' Then he (peace be upon him) taught me this supplication: 'Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace of all save You).
