Dua for Success Before a Business Deal or Contract

Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3922

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness of what it contains, and the goodness of what it is meant for. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what it contains, and the evil of what it is meant for.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.

When to Read

This dua is recited before entering into any significant undertaking, especially a business deal, contract signing, or investment. It's meant to be said just before the commitment is finalized, asking Allah to bless the venture and protect against potential harm or loss. Imagine yourself sitting down at the table, about to sign, or even just before you verbally agree – that's the perfect moment.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with focus and a clear intention. It's best to say it before the deal is legally binding. You can say it silently to yourself or softly aloud, depending on the situation. The key is to have your heart present, truly seeking Allah's guidance and protection. Imagine the contract or deal laid out before you, and direct this supplication to your Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful way to entrust your affairs to Allah (SWT) and seek His protection from any hidden harms or negative consequences in your business dealings. By asking for 'khayr' (goodness), you are seeking blessings, profitability, and a righteous outcome. Seeking refuge ('a'udhu bika') from 'sharr' (evil) covers potential losses, disputes, deceit, or anything that could lead to distress. It fosters a sense of reliance on Allah and acknowledges that ultimate success and protection come only from Him.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you marries a woman, or buys a servant, or buys a camel, let him take hold of the front of her forehead and say: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabalata 'alayha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabalata 'alayha. (O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have made it inclined towards, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have made it inclined towards).' *Note: While the hadith specifically mentions marriage, servants, and camels, the wisdom and wording of the dua are applicable to any significant undertaking where one seeks Allah's blessing and protection from potential harm, including business deals and contracts.
