Dua for Seeking Generous Provision While Traveling

Rizq & Provision
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 2602

O Allah, I ask You for its [the journey's] goodness and the goodness of all that it contains, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of all that it contains. O Allah, make the earth easy for me and make the journey easy for me, and bless me in it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayrihi wa khayri jami'ihi wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri jami'ihi. Allahumma zawwi li al-arda wa sahhil 'alayya al-safara wa barik li fihi.

When to Read

This dua is beautifully suited for the moment you embark on a journey, whether by car, plane, train, or even foot. Recite it just as you are setting out, or as you are about to enter your mode of transport. It's a comprehensive supplication asking Allah for the best of the journey and protection from its potential harms, while also seeking ease and blessings.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a trusting heart as you begin your travels. Face the direction of your journey, or simply recite it as you are starting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of seeking Allah's help in all our affairs, and this includes our journeys. Make sure your intention is clear: seeking lawful provision and a safe, blessed trip.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encompasses seeking the best of what the journey offers, protection from its dangers, and Allah's blessing upon the entire experience. Traveling can expose us to unforeseen circumstances, and by reciting this, we actively seek Allah's safeguarding and guidance. It also helps to cultivate a sense of reliance on Allah (tawakkul) throughout the trip, transforming a mundane journey into an act of worship and a means of drawing closer to our Creator, who is the ultimate source of all provisions (rizq).

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): When Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) mounted his camel to set out on a journey, he would glorify Allah by saying 'Subhan Allah' thrice, and then say: 'Glory be to Allah Who has subjected this to us, for we could never do it by ourselves. And to our Lord we shall surely return. O Allah, we ask You for goodness, piety, and a good end in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, make it easy for us in our journey and keep the earth rolled up for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor in the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey, and from seeing sorrow in my family and possessions. O Allah, roll up the earth for us, and make our journey a long one.' Then he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for its [the journey's] goodness and the goodness of all that it contains, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of all that it contains.' (Note: The hadith text provided in the source covers a broader dua for travel. The specific dua requested focuses on the latter part, which is directly related to the journey's provisions and blessings).
