O Allah, I ask You for the doing of Your good deeds, and the abandoning of Your disliked deeds, and love for the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy upon me. And if You intend for Your creation a trial, take me [to You] without having fallen into it. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayratik, wa tark munakaratik, wa hubb al-masakin, wa an taghfir li, wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan, fatawaffani ghayra muftatan, wa as'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amal yuqarribuni ila hubbik.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is excellent to recite when seeking a spouse, particularly when you want this union to be a source of spiritual and material well-being, guided by Allah's pleasure. It's suitable for any time, but especially after obligatory prayers or during the blessed times of the night, recognizing that marriage itself is a provision and a means of security from Allah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Facing the Qiblah, with wudu, and raising your hands (as is the Sunnah for sincere supplication) can enhance the feeling of seeking Allah's help. Reflect on each phrase, understanding its profound meaning, and ask Allah to grant you a righteous spouse who will be a source of comfort, piety, and sustenance.
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua doesn't mention 'spouse' explicitly, its comprehensive nature makes it incredibly relevant. By asking for the ability to do good deeds, abandon sin, and love the poor, you are essentially asking Allah to grant you the qualities of a righteous individual. This is precisely what one should seek in a spouse – someone who embodies these virtues. Furthermore, asking for Allah's love and the love of those who love Him, and deeds that draw one closer to Him, means you are asking for a partner who will help you achieve your ultimate goal: closeness to Allah. The Quran states: "And marry the unmarried among you... If they are poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty." (An-Nur 24:32). This verse highlights that marriage, sought with the right intention, can indeed be a means of provision and security.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him): A man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): 'What is the best thing that a man can be given?' He said: 'A grateful heart, a tongue that remembers Allah, and a believing wife who helps him with his worldly affairs and his religion.' Then he said: 'Should I not tell you of the most valuable treasure a man can store?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'A righteous wife who looks after him and his property when he is angry with her or displeased with her.' (This meaning is conveyed through the Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1713, which is a more general but comprehensive supplication for seeking Allah's blessings in all aspects of life, including righteous companionship.)
