(And also when waking up:) ‏بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَبِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ الَّتِي لَا يُجَاوِزُهُنَّ بِرٌّ وَلَا فَاجِرٌ، مِنْ شَرِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِيهِنَّ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الْأَرْضِ وَمَا فِيهَا، وَمِنْ شَرِّ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ السَّوْدَاءِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَأْتِي بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ، إِلَّا طَارِقًا يَطْرُقُ بِخَيْرٍ، يَا رَحْمَنُ.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that angers You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from demolition, and I seek refuge in You from falling (from a high place), and I seek refuge in You from drowning, burning, and decrepitude (extreme old age). And I seek refuge in You from being struck by Satan at the time of death. And I seek refuge in You from dying in Your cause while retreating, and I seek refuge in You from dying from a venomous sting. (And also when waking up:) In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the Great Face of Allah, and in the perfect words of Allah which no righteous person or wicked person surpasses, from the evil of the heavens and what is in them, and from the evil of the earth and what is on it, and from the evil of this black wind, and from the evil of every creature whose forelock You are holding. And from the evil of what comes by night and day, except for a night visitor who comes with good, O Most Merciful.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hadm, wa a'udhu bika min at-taraddi, wa a'udhu bika min al-gharaq, wal-haraq, wal-haram. Wa a'udhu bika an yatakhabbatani ash-shaytanu 'inda al-mawt. Wa a'udhu bika an amuta fi sabilika mudbiran, wa a'udhu bika an amuta ladighan. (And also when waking up:) Bismillah, a'udhu biwajhillahil-'adhim, wa bikamatillahit-tammati-llati la yujawizuhunna birrun wa la fajirun, min sharris-samawati wa ma fihinna, wa min sharril-ardi wa ma fiha, wa min sharri hadhihir-rihis-sawda', wa min sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhidun binasiyatiha, wa min sharri ma ya'ti bil-layli wan-nahar, illa tariqan yatruqu bikhairin, ya Rahmanu.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) would say his salaam at the end of the prayer, he would say: > Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. > (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that angers You.) Sahih Muslim 2710. And it was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: > When one of you goes to sleep, let him say: > Bismillah, a'udhu biwajhillahil-'adhim, wa bikamatillahit-tammati-llati la yujawizuhunna birrun wa la fajirun, min sharris-samawati wa ma fihinna, wa min sharril-ardi wa ma fiha, wa min sharri hadhihir-rihis-sawda', wa min sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhidun binasiyatiha, wa min sharri ma ya'ti bil-layli wan-nahar, illa tariqan yatruqu bikhairin, ya Rahmanu. > (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the Great Face of Allah, and in the perfect words of Allah which no righteous person or wicked person surpasses, from the evil of the heavens and what is in them, and from the evil of the earth and what is on it, and from the evil of this black wind, and from the evil of every creature whose forelock You are holding. And from the evil of what comes by night and day, except for a night visitor who comes with good, O Most Merciful.) > > For if he says this, then he will be protected until morning, and Satan will not come near him.
