اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace instead of from anyone else.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect to recite daily, especially during the times when you feel most vulnerable to financial temptations or when seeking new employment or business opportunities. Make it a habit after Fajr prayer to start your day with seeking Allah's protection and lawful provision.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with a heart full of reliance on Allah. Ensure you are facing the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands slightly. Understand the meaning deeply – you are asking Allah to provide for you in ways that are pleasing to Him, keeping you far from anything that displeases Him, and to make you self-sufficient through His immense bounty, so you don't have to depend on others for what you need.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive request for lawful sustenance and independence from reliance on others. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we are essentially praying to be shielded from any means of earning that are forbidden or questionable. The second part, asking to be enriched by His grace, means we are seeking contentment and sufficiency through His bestowal, making us feel less need for the creations of Allah. This fosters a beautiful sense of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and contentment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A creditor of his came and asked him for his debt. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'I do not have it.' He said: 'Then by Allah, I will remind you!' Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'May Allah remind you of what you wish.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: 'If a man asks his wealth in lawful ways, then he is blessed in it; and if he asks his wealth in unlawful ways, then he is like one who eats but is never satisfied. And the worst of all means of asking are the worst of all means.' Then he said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me words to say:اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace instead of from anyone else.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563, classified as Hasan Ghareeb. Also narrated in other wordings in Musnad Ahmad and others.)
