اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a powerful and comprehensive supplication that can be recited at any time, especially during the times when duas are more likely to be accepted, such as after prescribed prayers (salah), during the last third of the night, or between the Adhan and Iqamah. It's particularly poignant when facing financial challenges or when seeking to ensure one's earnings are pure and blessed.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words. Raise your hands, as is customary when making dua, and remember that Allah (SWT) is the ultimate provider. Believe that He has the power to grant you what you ask for and protect you from what you seek protection from. It's recommended to make this dua regularly as part of your daily remembrance (dhikr) or when you feel the need for Allah's protection in your sustenance.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah (SWT) to grant us lawful sustenance and protect us from any form of earnings that are unlawful (haram). It emphasizes reliance on Allah alone for provision, seeking His divine sufficiency ('kifayah') and enrichment ('ghina'). By asking to be sufficed with lawful means, we are essentially seeking Allah's blessing in our income, ensuring it is clean and pleasing to Him. This protection is crucial as haram income can bring worldly and otherworldly troubles, including a lack of barakah (blessing) in one's life and potential accountability in the Hereafter.
Source & Authentication
The hadith is reported as: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, whoever is concerned with the temporary matters of this world, Allah will make him feel that he is always poor and scattered in his affairs, and he will not get from this world except what has been decreed for him. And whoever is concerned with the unlawful matters of this world, he will have earned Allah's anger. And whoever is concerned with Allah, Allah will suffice him, make him rich, and fulfill his needs.' He then taught this dua: 'Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You).
