Barakallahu laka fi ahlika wa malik

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is what the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when visiting someone and making dua for them, specifically for their family and wealth. We can adapt this when visiting a friend who has a new baby, or when we want to make a general dua for our own children's provision and well-being. It's a concise yet powerful way to ask Allah to bestow His blessings upon the family unit.

How to Read

This dua is typically said by someone else for you, but we can also internalize its meaning and make it for our own children. Recite it with sincere intention, focusing on the concept of 'Barakah' – Allah's continuous and abundant goodness. Imagine Allah's blessings flowing over your child, protecting them and providing for them. It’s best recited with a clear mind and heart, ideally after performing a prayer or at a time when you feel close to Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for Divine favor. 'Barakah' means an increase in goodness, a divine endowment that makes something grow and be sufficient. By asking for barakah upon a child, we are asking for Allah's continued protection, guidance, and provision throughout their life. It's a recognition that true sustenance and blessings come solely from our Creator. The Prophet's ﷺ use of this dua highlights the importance of invoking Allah’s name when seeking good for our loved ones.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) visited a man among his companions and he said: "Shall I not pray for you as your Messenger prayed for you?" He said: "Yes." He (ﷺ) said: 'Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alaika wa jama'a baynakuma fi khair' (May Allah bless you, and bestow His blessings upon you, and bring you together in goodness).' In another narration, the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Abu Mihdja (may Allah be pleased with him) after he had fallen ill: 'Barakallahu laka' (May Allah bless you).
