اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of the favors of others.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This is a profound dua to recite daily, especially after your obligatory prayers. It's particularly powerful when you feel your worldly resources are strained or when you are seeking ethical and lawful means to earn a living. Consider reciting it when facing financial uncertainty or when praying for increased blessings in your provision.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's ability to provide from sources you cannot even imagine. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, and face the Qiblah. Raise your hands in supplication, embodying humility and dependence on your Creator. The key is a heartfelt plea, not just mouthing the words.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to protect us from unlawful earnings and to fulfill our needs through His boundless grace, making us independent of needing to ask from creation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to his beloved cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he told him: 'Say to Allah: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of the favors of others.' The narrator of the hadith, Ali, said that if a person recited this dua about the debt he had, Allah would pay it off for him. This highlights its power in resolving financial difficulties through miraculous means.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for me and said: 'What is the matter that I see you distressed?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a string of my shield has broken.' He said: 'Do you not like that you have a garment with which you can cover yourself?' Then he said: 'Shall I not teach you words that if you say them, Allah will suffice you regarding your debt, even if it were as large as Mount Ser? Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of the favors of others.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563. Graded Hasan by some scholars.)
