اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I need not ask anyone other than You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
Recite this dua regularly, especially when facing financial hardship, uncertainty about income, or when concerned about providing for yourself and your family. It's particularly beneficial to say it after every obligatory prayer, or during the blessed times like the last third of the night, or when making sujood (prostration) in prayer.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention and conviction, believing that Allah is the ultimate source of all provision. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to protect you from unlawful earnings and to grant you contentment and self-sufficiency through His blessings. Raising your hands slightly can be part of the supplication etiquette, though not strictly required for this specific dua.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua directly addresses the need for sustenance while safeguarding against haram (unlawful) sources. By asking Allah to suffice us with His halal provision, we are seeking protection from falling into forbidden means of earning. The second part, 'enrich me with Your grace, so that I need not ask anyone other than You,' cultivates contentment and independence, fostering a deep reliance on Allah alone. This reliance is a cornerstone of faith, leading to peace of mind even in trying circumstances. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his beloved cousin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), indicating its importance and the trust placed in its efficacy.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught me these words and commanded me to recite them daily, 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I do not need anyone besides You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563). The hadith is graded as Hasan by many scholars, including Al-Albani, due to its supporting chains of narration.
