اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need assistance from anyone other than You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite regularly, especially during the times when supplication is most likely to be answered, such as after the obligatory prayers, between the Adhan and Iqamah, during the last third of the night, or on Friday. It’s particularly relevant when seeking lawful sustenance and when feeling the need to rely solely on Allah for provision.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's ability to provide. Ensure you maintain lawful means in seeking wealth and avoid anything that is forbidden. Raise your hands in supplication as is the Sunnah, face the Qiblah if possible, and begin with praising Allah and sending Salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah to satisfy our needs through permissible means, protecting us from resorting to haram (forbidden) ways of earning. It also petitions for sufficiency through Allah's bounty, fostering complete reliance on Him. By seeking enrichment from Allah's grace alone, we cultivate contentment and avoid the dependence on creation that can lead to hardship and dissatisfaction. This teaches us a profound lesson in Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) while actively pursuing lawful livelihood.
Source & Authentication
Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a Muba'adh (a man who owed money) came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my Muba'adh has become too much for me and my debts have become heavy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Shall I not teach you words that if you say them, Allah will clear your debts, even if they were as much as Mount Sir' (a mountain in Yemen)? He said: Yes, teach me. The Prophet ﷺ said: Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadhlik 'amman siwaka. (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need assistance from anyone other than You). (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563).
