Rizq & Provision
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, for good provisions, and for deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to recite after the Fajr (dawn) prayer. It's perfect for seeking Allah's blessings in all aspects of life, including your business. When business is slow, we often feel the pinch of reduced income. Reciting this dua, with sincere intention, asks Allah for the *tayyib* (good, pure, lawful) provisions, which naturally includes customers who bring honest livelihood and that our efforts in seeking them are accepted.

How to Read

Make this dua after finishing the Fajr prayer. Ensure you are in a state of wudu (ritual purity) and facing the Qiblah (direction of prayer). Raise your hands, palms facing upwards, and recite it with humility and conviction, believing that Allah is the ultimate provider. After reciting, wipe your hands over your face and body, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ in some instances of making dua. Remember, the intention is key; focus on seeking Allah's help for legitimate and blessed means.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses seeking three crucial elements for a successful and fulfilling life: beneficial knowledge, good sustenance, and accepted deeds. By asking for 'rizqan tayyiban' (good provisions), you are specifically requesting lawful and blessed income. In the context of slow business, this dua is a reminder that true prosperity comes from Allah, and asking for *tayyib* provision is a way to seek blessings that attract customers and ensure the dealings are honest and pleasing to Him. The Prophet ﷺ said about this dua: 'If he dies on that day, he will die having fulfilled (his implied duty).' [Reference: Sunan Ibn Majah 925, graded Hasan by scholars]

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'None of you should say: O Allah, forgive me if You wish, O Allah, bestow mercy on me if You wish. He should be firm in his request, for there is no one to compel Him (to do otherwise).' Then he mentioned the following dua: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me sustenance.' And in another narration, it is mentioned: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, for good provisions, and for deeds that are accepted.' (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan).
