Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to seek from anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is powerful to recite at any time, but particularly potent after your obligatory prayers. You can also make it a regular part of your morning or evening supplications, or whenever you feel a specific need for Allah's assistance in earning your livelihood.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to provide. Visualize His blessings flowing towards you through lawful means. Focus on the meaning of each word, acknowledging your dependence on Him and His boundless generosity. It's beautiful to say this with hands raised, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did when making dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to shield you from the temptation and necessity of unlawful earnings by providing abundantly through halal means. It also expresses a deep reliance on Allah's grace, seeking contentment and independence from relying on anyone else. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), indicating its significance for ensuring a blessed and sufficient provision.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught me these words to say in the Witr prayer: "O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, and Your well-being among those whom You have favored, and be my guardian among those whom You have taken as guardians, and bless what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Verily, You decree and no one decrees against You, and he is not humiliated whom You have taken as a guardian. Blessed are You, O Lord, and Exalted." [Then the narrator mentioned the following addition that the Prophet ﷺ taught him to say at the end of the Tashahhud]: "Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak." (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to seek from anyone other than You.)
