اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.
Allahumma ikfinii bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghninii bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a powerful and comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, but it's particularly beneficial to make it a habit after your obligatory prayers (Salah). You can also say it when you feel worried about your provision, when seeking a new job, or when making important financial decisions. It's about seeking Allah's help to guide you towards what is permissible and to free you from reliance on anyone but Him.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and full conviction in Allah's ability to provide. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly when making dua, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Focus on the meaning of the words: you are asking Allah to protect you from unlawful earnings and to make you content with His blessings, so you don't need to resort to unlawful means or depend on people. Making dua in a state of wudu (ablution) is also recommended.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound request for both spiritual and material well-being. By asking to be sufficed with lawful provision, we're seeking Allah's protection from the sin and ill-effects of haram (unlawful) earnings, which can lead to hardship in this life and the next. The second part, 'enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You,' is a plea for contentment and self-sufficiency through Allah's bounty. True richness is not just about wealth, but about being free from the need of creation and having one's heart solely attached to the Creator. This leads to peace of mind and reliance on Allah alone.

The hadith is narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A Mukatab (a slave who had entered into a contract for his freedom) came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay my Maktubah (contractual payment for freedom), so help me.' Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught you? If you have the equivalent of a mountain like Uhud in debt, Allah will pay it for you. He said: 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.' (Allahumma ikfinii bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghninii bifadlika 'amman siwak).
