Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 744

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite in the morning after Fajr prayer, as it encompasses seeking beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. When you are actively seeking a job, make it a consistent part of your daily supplications. You can also recite it at other times, especially during the blessed times for dua like the last third of the night, between the Adhan and Iqamah, or when breaking your fast if you are fasting.

How to Read

Begin by making sincere intention (niyyah) to seek Allah's help in finding a halal job. Face the Qiblah, raise your hands (as is customary for dua), and begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Recite this dua with humility and conviction, believing that Allah is capable of granting your request. Repeat it three times for good measure, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. After reciting, continue to ask Allah for specific help in your job search, such as guidance towards suitable opportunities, ease in the process, and success in interviews. You can also add other relevant duas from the Sunnah for seeking rizq (provision).

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a cornerstone for seeking blessings in all aspects of life. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' (ilman nafi'an) allows us to understand our deen and worldly matters correctly, leading us to make sound decisions. Asking for 'goodly provision' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that the sustenance we receive is not only sufficient but also pure and lawful (halal), free from doubt or haram means. Finally, requesting 'acceptable deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) means we are not just working hard, but working in ways that please Allah and will be rewarded in the Hereafter. By combining these three elements, we are asking Allah for a holistic success that benefits us in this life and the next, which is crucial when seeking employment that is pleasing to Him.
