O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your judgement upon me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You, which You have bestowed upon Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept secret in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya h'ukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi

Virtues & Benefits

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you are afflicted with worry or sadness, you may supplicate with them to Allah? So the Companions said: 'Yes, Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your judgement upon me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You, which You have bestowed upon Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept secret in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I find that I must learn these words.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes, indeed, you should learn them, and learn those who learn them.' So he taught them to two men, and he said: 'Learn them, for whoever learns them, will have expended the best of efforts.'
