Dua for Entering the Marketplace

Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise. He gives life and He causes death, and He is ever-living, He does not die. In His hand is all good, and He is Most Powerful over all things.

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited upon entering any marketplace. The market is a place where people often engage in buying and selling, and it can also be a place where one might be distracted or tempted by worldly affairs. Reciting this dua helps to anchor our intentions, remember Allah's oneness and power, and seek His blessings in our endeavors.

How to Read

Recite this dua once when you first enter the marketplace. It's best to say it before you begin your shopping or any business. The wording itself is a powerful reminder of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), His absolute dominion, and His control over all affairs, including the provision we seek.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us about the immense reward for reciting this specific dua upon entering the marketplace. He ﷺ said: 'Whoever enters the marketplace and says: 'La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu yuhyi wa yumitu wa Huwa Hayyun la yamutu, bi yadihil-khayru wa Huwa 'ala kulli shay'in Qadir,' Allah will write for him one thousand thousand (one million) good deeds, and will erase from him one thousand thousand sins, and will raise him one thousand thousand levels, and will build for him a house in Paradise.' (Sahih Muslim 1342). This hadith highlights how even a short utterance, when said with sincerity, can bring about monumental rewards and purification of sins.
