Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace, instead of by the people.

Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly effective when recited regularly, especially after your obligatory prayers. It's a supplication you can turn to during moments of financial worry or when facing difficulties with debt. Making it a habit, even when times are good, can help ward off future hardship and cultivate contentment.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, believing in Allah's ability to provide. Raise your hands as you would in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Speak with humility and focus your heart on the meaning of the words, acknowledging your reliance on Allah alone for sustenance and well-being. Repeating it multiple times can strengthen your connection with Allah and reinforce the supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive plea for lawful provision and self-sufficiency, directly addressing the root of financial worry. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provisions, we seek protection from unlawful means that can lead to further trouble. The second part, seeking to be enriched by His grace rather than depending on others, fosters independence and gratitude, preventing the humiliation of asking from creation and the potential burden of obligation. It's a balanced request for both material and spiritual contentment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A freeman came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am unable to reach a contract for freedom. So help me.' He ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you words that if you say them, Allah would remove your debt, even if it were as large as Mount Sir?' He said: 'Yes, do it.' He ﷺ said: 'Say: Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' (O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace, instead of by the people.) — Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563
