Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite when you feel overwhelmed by worldly desires, or when you are facing financial challenges. It's also a beautiful habit to make it a regular part of your morning or evening supplications, asking Allah to grant you contentment with what you have, and to protect you from seeking unlawful means.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a heart full of hope in Allah's mercy. It is best to raise your hands slightly as you make this supplication. Utter the words clearly and reflect on their meaning, asking Allah to open the doors of lawful rizq and grant you contentment with His decree.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to provide sustenance that is lawful (halal) and to make us independent of seeking from creation. It fosters a mindset of gratitude for what we already possess, preventing envy and greed. By seeking sufficiency from Allah alone, we strengthen our Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and reduce our dependence on others, which is a source of peace and dignity.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me these words and told me to recite them at the end of the Witr prayer. Another narration states: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'If any one of you has a debt, but has no wealth to pay it off, then let him say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563, narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, classified as Hasan by Al-Albani).
