Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6470

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of relying on others.

Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting when you are seeking to improve your livelihood, when you feel the pinch of financial hardship, or simply as a regular supplication to ensure your earnings are pure and blessed. It's especially relevant after Fajr prayer, as many hadith encourage making dua at this time, but it can be recited at any point when you are seeking lawful provision and freedom from need.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction in Allah's power to provide. Focus on the meaning of the words: asking Allah to replace anything unlawful in your life with what is lawful, and to make you self-sufficient through His bounty, so you don't have to depend on anyone else. Understanding the essence of 'halal' (lawful) and 'haram' (unlawful) in your provision is key. It's best recited when your heart is present and focused on your Lord.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua has several profound benefits. Firstly, it directly asks Allah to protect you from unlawful gains, which can lead to immense hardship and displeasure from Allah. Secondly, it seeks 'ghina' (independence/self-sufficiency) through Allah's 'fadl' (grace and bounty), which is a state of contentment and freedom from reliance on creation. True richness isn't just about wealth, but about inner peace and not being beholden to others. This dua aims for that higher state, aligning your pursuit of provision with Allah's pleasure.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Makkans (the owners of the polytheistic tribes) asked the Prophet ﷺ to give them some authority, and so he said: 'O Allah, suffice me with what You have decreed for me.' Then a man came to him and said: 'What is the dua?' He replied: 'Say: Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of relying on others.) — Sahih al-Bukhari 6470
