Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect to recite any time you feel concerned about your financial situation, or as a proactive measure to ask Allah for blessings in your earnings. It's particularly beneficial to recite after your obligatory prayers, or first thing in the morning before starting your day's work. Making it a habit can help shift your focus from worldly anxieties to seeking Allah's provision and sufficiency.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, believing that Allah is Al-Razzaq (The Ultimate Provider). Raise your hands, as is customary when making dua, and focus on the meaning of the words. Beseech Allah to grant you enough lawful income so you don't have to resort to unlawful means, and to make you self-sufficient through His bounty, so you don't have to depend on anyone else.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for both sufficiency and purity in one's livelihood. By asking Allah to suffice us with lawful earnings, we are seeking protection from falling into haram (forbidden) means, which can lead to spiritual and worldly ruin. The request for enrichment through His grace fosters contentment and dependence on Allah alone, reducing reliance on creation and fostering Tawakkul (trust in Allah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a way to pay off his debts, indicating its effectiveness in easing financial burdens and bringing barakah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) the following words to recite in order to pay off his debt: 'Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.)
