اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need to ask from anyone besides You.
Allahumma-kfinee bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghninee bifadlika 'amman siwak.
When to Read
This dua is perfect for reciting at any time, especially when facing financial worries or the burden of debt. Make it a regular part of your supplications after every prayer (Salat) or during the times when dua is most likely to be accepted, like the last third of the night or between the adhan and iqamah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to provide. Focus on the meaning of the words as you speak them. It is recommended to raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, though it's not strictly required for all types of dua. Imagine Allah listening and responding to your plea.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua directly asks Allah to provide in a lawful manner, shielding us from unlawful means that might seem like a quick fix but lead to greater trouble. It also seeks a state of contentment and self-sufficiency ('ghina) through His grace, freeing us from reliance on others. This leads to peace of mind and a reduction in the stress associated with debt. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for something that would help him repay his debts.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught me the words to say so that if I had the equivalent of Mount Thabir in debt, Allah would help me to pay it off. He said, 'O Ali, say: اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ (Allahumma-kfinee bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghninee bifadlika 'amman siwak).' (Transliteration: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need to ask from anyone besides You.)
