Rizq & Provision
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3845

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, especially after the obligatory prayers (Salah). It's particularly fitting when you feel a need for sustenance that will help you in your pursuit of knowledge, ensuring that your provision is pure and your efforts are accepted.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you do for other duas. Believe in Allah's ability to grant your request and be certain that He hears you. It is recommended to start with praises of Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three of the most vital aspects of a Muslim's life: beneficial knowledge that guides us, pure provision that sustains us, and accepted deeds that bring us closer to Allah. Seeking beneficial knowledge is a virtue in itself, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'When Allah wills good for a servant, He makes him understand the religion.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 71). This dua specifically asks for knowledge that is 'naafi'an' (beneficial), meaning knowledge that we can act upon and that benefits ourselves and others. Asking for 'rizqan tayyiban' (goodly provision) ensures that our sustenance is lawful (halal) and pleasing to Allah, which in turn purifies our actions and supplications. Finally, asking for 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (accepted deeds) is the ultimate goal, as only deeds accepted by Allah will bring true reward.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted). — Sunan Ibn Majah 3845. It is also reported in Sahih Muslim in a slightly different wording related to the morning supplication: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted).
