Dua for Allah to Grant Provision Through Lawful Means and Avoid Haram

Rizq & Provision
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive supplication that can be made at any time, but it's particularly powerful when recited after the obligatory prayers, during the times when duas are readily accepted (like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah), or when seeking Allah's guidance regarding your livelihood and career path. It’s a dua you can make daily to keep your intention pure.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each word. Raise your hands in supplication as is the Sunnah when making dua. Begin by praising Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ensure your heart is present, understanding that only Allah can grant what you ask. It's good to make this part of your regular dhikr (remembrance of Allah).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three crucial aspects of a fulfilling life in Islam: beneficial knowledge that guides you, pure provision (rizq tayyib) that sustains you without burdening your conscience, and accepted deeds that bring you closer to Allah. Seeking rizq tayyib is a direct command and a blessing from Allah, as He states in Al-Baqarah 2:168: "O people, eat from [what is] lawful and good on the earth and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy." By asking for lawful provision, you are aligning yourself with Allah's commands and protecting yourself from the temptations of haram.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925. Graded Hasan by Darussalam). This supplication was often made by the Prophet ﷺ in the morning, seeking blessings for the day ahead, ensuring his actions and sustenance were aligned with Allah's pleasure.
