Rizq & Provision
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 2202

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ مُبَارَكًا عَلَيْهِ، وَاهْدِهِ وَأَصْلِحْ لَنَا مِنْهُ.

O Allah, make him/her blessed upon him/her, guide him/her, and make him/her a source of righteousness for us.

Allahumma ij'alhu mubarakan 'alayhi, wahdihi wa aslih lana minhu.

When to Read

This dua is beautifully suited for reciting when a child is born, during Aqiqah (the sacrificial offering on the seventh day after birth), or at any time you wish to supplicate for your child's well-being, piety, and blessed future. It can be a regular part of your supplications after Salah or during other opportune moments for dua.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a believing heart, focusing on the blessings you wish for your child. Raise your hands in supplication as you do for other duas. It's also beneficial to teach this dua to your children as they grow, so they can make it for themselves and their own offspring.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah for barakah (blessings) in the child's life, which encompasses spiritual, worldly, and hereafter prosperity. It also seeks guidance and righteousness, ensuring the child grows up to be a source of comfort and joy for the parents, both in this life and the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized making sincere dua for children, as their righteousness can be a means of continuous reward for the parents even after their passing.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'When a child of Adam dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who supplicates for him.' (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 12, Hadith 2202). While this hadith doesn't contain the exact wording of the dua, it highlights the immense value of a righteous child whose duas can benefit their parents. The dua itself is a supplication for that righteousness and for general blessings upon the child.
