اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.

Allahumma-kfini bi halalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua for sustenance (rizq) that can be recited at any time, especially when planting, tending to crops, or facing concerns about provision. It's particularly relevant when seeking Allah's blessing in agricultural endeavors, asking for protection against scarcity, and ensuring the crops are lawful and beneficial.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands slightly as is customary when making dua. Focus on the meaning of the words, internalizing the request for Allah's sufficiency and independent wealth through His bounty. It's best to recite it after obligatory prayers or during times of reflection, with a clean heart and mind.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for Allah's provision, asking Him to make lawful earnings sufficient and to grant independence from needing to beg from creation. By seeking lawful sustenance, we ensure blessings in our wealth and efforts. For farmers, asking for sufficiency and lawful provision directly relates to the crops they cultivate, praying for a harvest that is both abundant and blessed by Allah, free from any impermissible elements. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his cousin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked him for something to help him gain freedom from debt and reliance on others.

Source & Authentication

‘Ali reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught him a du'a to say in order to pay off his debt. He said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.' (He said:) If you have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah will pay it off for you. I (Tirmidhi) said: This is a hasan hadith.
