Ramadan & Fasting
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2709

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the whispers of devils and from their presence.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatish-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication invokes Allah's perfect words for protection against His displeasure, His punishment, the evil of mankind, and the insidious whispers and presence of Shayateen (devils). It serves as a powerful shield against both external and internal negative influences that can manifest in disturbing dreams.

Source & Authentication

A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, last night I was stung by a scorpion.' He said: 'What did you say?' He said: 'I recited the verses of the Quran for protection.' He (ﷺ) said: 'If you had said when you entered the evening: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ > **Translation:** 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.' > **Transliteration:** *A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq* ...it would not have harmed you.' Then it was mentioned before him that the Prophet (ﷺ) had taught them this supplication when they were in need of seeking refuge: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ > **Translation:** 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the whispers of devils and from their presence.' — Sahih Muslim 2709
