Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithAd-Da'awat (Supplications) 3490

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَالْعَمَلَ الَّذِي يُبَلِّغُنِي حُبَّكَ

O Allah, I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the action that will make me attain Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka Hubbak, wa Hubba man yuhibbuk, wal-'amalalladhi yuballighuni Hubbak.

When to Read

This beautiful supplication can be recited at any time, but it holds special significance during our fasts. As we abstain from food, drink, and other desires, our hearts are often more receptive and attuned to spiritual reflection. Make this dua during Suhoor, seeking Allah's love to empower your day; just before Iftar, when duas are readily accepted; or during the quiet moments of the night, especially in Qiyam al-Layl, when your connection with Allah feels closest. It's particularly powerful when you feel your faith wavering or when you long for a deeper, more profound spiritual experience while fasting.

How to Read

Approach this dua with a sincere heart, truly yearning for Allah's love and the love of those who embody His pleasure. Understand the meaning of each phrase: You're asking not just for love, but for the means to earn it – through actions pleasing to Him. Reflect on your fasting: is it an act born of love for Allah? Let this dua deepen that intention. Recite it with humility, recognizing that Allah's love is a profound gift, and that every act of worship, especially fasting, is an opportunity to draw nearer to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua, particularly while fasting, helps us cultivate the very qualities that lead to the **sweetness of faith (Halawat al-Iman)**. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Three qualities, whoever has them, will taste the sweetness of faith: that Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else; that he loves a person only for the sake of Allah; and that he hates to return to disbelief after Allah has saved him from it, as much as he hates to be thrown into the Fire." (Sahih al-Bukhari 16, Sahih Muslim 43). By asking for Allah's love and the love of actions that bring us closer to Him, we actively strive for these qualities. Fasting, undertaken purely for Allah, becomes a powerful action in this pursuit. This dua fosters a deeper **divine connection**, enhances sincerity in worship, and can transform our fast from a mere physical abstinence into a profound spiritual journey, filled with inner peace and contentment. It reminds us that the ultimate goal of our actions is to earn Allah's pleasure and love, making our fasting not just a duty, but a beloved act of devotion.

Narrated Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Dawud (peace be upon him) used to say in his supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of every action that brings me closer to Your love. O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cold water." ' Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.
