It's a comprehensive supplication for overall well-being, which is particularly pertinent when the body is under strain.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible, and recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Focus on the meaning – asking Allah for holistic health, strength, and ease in both your worldly affairs and your eternal journey. Believe that Allah, the Most Merciful, will respond to your sincere plea.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking 'Afiyah (well-being, safety, protection) from Allah encompasses seeking protection from all forms of harm, illness, and hardship, both physical and spiritual. When fasting while traveling, a period that can naturally lead to fatigue and susceptibility to illness, this dua is a profound request for Allah's encompassing care. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us: 'Du'a is the weapon of the believer, a pillar of the religion and a light of the heavens and the earth.' (Reported by Abu Ya'la and graded Sahih by Al-Albani in Sahih Al-Jami' no. 3322). This emphasizes the critical role of supplication in overcoming challenges.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never neglected these words when morning and evening came: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afiyata fi dunyaya wa akhirati. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwata wal 'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'adhimatika an ughtala min tahti.' (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and protect me from anxieties. O Allah, guard me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being annihilated from beneath me.)
