O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail. Purify my heart from sins, just as a white garment is purified from dirt. And keep me far from my sins, just as You have kept the East and the West far apart.
Allahumma-ghsil qalbi bimā' ath-thalji wal-baradi, wa naqqi qalbi minal-khaṭāyā kamā yunaqqā ath-thawbu al-abyadu min ad-danasi, wa bā'id baynī wa bayna khaṭāyāyā kamā bā'adta baynal-mashriqi wal-maghribi
When to Read
This powerful supplication is particularly fitting for Ramadan, a month dedicated to purification and self-improvement. You can recite it after your obligatory prayers, during the blessed hours of the night (especially during the last ten nights), or at any time you feel the need for a deep spiritual cleanse. The fasting itself is a form of detox, and this dua amplifies that intention.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Visualize your heart being cleansed, envisioning the purity and distance from sin as described. Approach Allah with humility and focus, reflecting on your shortcomings and your earnest desire for purification. It's a personal plea to the One who can truly cleanse and purify.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua seeks a profound spiritual cleansing. It asks Allah to purify the heart, the seat of our intentions and actions, from sins. By comparing the purification of the heart to the cleansing of a white garment from dirt and the vast distance between East and West, it emphasizes the desire for complete and absolute purity. Ramadan is the prime season for seeking such purification, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ mentioned: 'Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven' (Sahih al-Bukhari 38).
