O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of tribulation, and the misfortune of wretchedness, and the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of enemies.

Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive request for protection against various forms of hardship and misfortune. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'hardship of tribulation' (jahdil-bala'), we ask for strength to endure difficulties without succumbing to despair. The 'misfortune of wretchedness' (darakish-shaqa') refers to a state of deep unhappiness and misery, which fasting can sometimes evoke when we feel weary. Protection from the 'evil of decree' (su'il-qada') means accepting Allah's plan while asking for His grace to navigate it smoothly, even if it initially seems difficult. Finally, seeking refuge from the 'rejoicing of enemies' (shamatatil-a'daa') reminds us that our struggles can be a source of distress to others if we don't face them with patience and faith. Reciting this can transform our perception of fasting discomfort from a burden to an opportunity for spiritual growth and earning Allah's pleasure.
