By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, we are placing our trust in His ultimate protection against any form of harm that creation might bring.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to protect. It is recommended to face the Qiblah, if possible, and to have a clear heart, free from doubt. You can also blow gently onto yourself or your surroundings after reciting it, a practice seen with other protective duas. The key is a mindful and heartfelt recitation, understanding that you are invoking the mightiest protection available.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a comprehensive means of seeking Allah's protection. When asked about this dua, the Prophet ﷺ stated, 'He who recites it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until he enters the evening, and he who recites it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any calamity until he wakes up in the morning.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). This highlights its effectiveness against all forms of harm, including poisons and toxins, whether they are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise encountered.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what have you encountered from my suffering yesterday?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'As for me, I have not encountered anything. Perhaps the one who treated you with poison was treated with poison (i.e., his own poison harmed him).' Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.' So no poison harmed him. Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah by reciting: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every beast and every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'This is what Ibrahim (Abraham) used to seek refuge in with Allah on the same basis.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371) And it was narrated from him that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.' (Sahih Muslim 2708)
