أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful dua is a comprehensive shield against all forms of evil, including the harmful effects of the evil eye (nazar) cast by people. It's especially beneficial to recite when you feel someone's gaze is having a negative impact on you, your family, your possessions, or your health. Many scholars recommend reciting it in the morning and evening as a general protection, as well as specifically when you notice signs of nazar, such as sudden illness, unexplained difficulties, or a feeling of unease.
How to Read
Recite this dua three times in the morning and three times in the evening. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication as a means of seeking Allah's complete protection through His perfect words. While reciting, focus your heart on seeking Allah's refuge, understanding that only He can truly protect you from harm. It is also recommended to blow gently onto yourself after reciting, a practice mentioned in other hadith related to seeking refuge.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound reliance on Allah. By seeking refuge in His perfect words, we acknowledge His ultimate power and sovereignty over all creation. The Prophet ﷺ himself turned to Allah with such supplications when seeking protection, showing us the Sunnah way. It encompasses protection from all created evils, making it a potent shield against the unseen harms, including the malice that can stem from the evil eye. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated concerning this dua: 'Whoever says it three times in the morning will be protected from everything until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will be protected from everything until the morning.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). This highlights its immense virtue as a daily protection.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever stays with me in this gathering should say: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ > **Translation:** "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created." No harm will come to him from that.' A man staying with him said: 'I recited it against the scorpion. It did not harm me.' Upon that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You have recited it, so for you there is no harm.' Another narration by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: 'There is no slave who says in the morning of every day and the evening of every night: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ > **Translation:** "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created." But that thing will not harm him.' (Sahih Muslim 2708).
