In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Bismillahil-ladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening. It serves as a comprehensive shield, invoking Allah's protection against all forms of harm, including the subtle and insidious dangers of magic and sorcery (sihr). Make it a habit to recite this after Fajr and Asr prayers, as part of your daily remembrance and fortification.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention and firm belief in Allah's power to protect. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though this supplication can be recited at any time. Focus on the meaning of the words, understanding that you are placing your trust entirely in the Creator of all things.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us that whoever recites this supplication three times in the morning and three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity. Sahih Muslim (2708) also narrates a similar hadith: 'No servant says this (dua) three times at the beginning of the evening, but no poison will harm him that night.' While this specific narration mentions poison, the general principle of seeking refuge in Allah's name with these attributes (Hearing and Knowing) extends to protection from all harms, including sihr, which is a real phenomenon that can affect individuals. By invoking His name, we acknowledge His absolute power over all creation and seek His safeguarding.

The narration in Adab al-Mufrad (1204) also affirms this supplication as protection from harm.
