Protection
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2706

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from cowardice, stinginess, the evil of old age, the trial of the Dajjal, and the punishment of the grave.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-juhni wal-bukhl wa su'il-'umri wa fitnatid-dajjal wa 'adhabil-qabr

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite regularly, particularly after the obligatory prayers. It's wise to make it a habit in your daily supplications, especially in the morning and evening remembrance (adhkar).

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication, face the Qiblah if possible, and recite with sincerity and conviction. Focus on the meaning of each phrase and the absolute reliance you are placing on Allah for protection.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge with Allah from these specific traits and trials is a sign of recognizing our own weaknesses and our need for divine assistance. Cowardice (juhun) can prevent us from standing up for truth or fulfilling our obligations. Stinginess (bukhl) can lead to hoarding wealth, neglecting the rights of others, and a lack of generosity. The Prophet ﷺ, despite his immense character, constantly turned to Allah for protection, reminding us that true strength and freedom from negative traits come only from Him. This dua encompasses protection from inner spiritual diseases and outward worldly trials.

Source & Authentication
