O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of the wellness You have granted, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You decree which is displeasing. I seek refuge in You from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the grave, and from the evil of corrupting deeds. I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and from being overcome by the enemy, and from the evil of the closest ones (or relatives/those near to us).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-qabr, wa 'adhadhil-qabr, wa sharrir fasadil-a'mal, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayn, wa ghalabatil-'aduww, wa sharril-aqrabin.
When to Read
This is a comprehensive supplication that can be recited at any time, especially during the morning and evening remembrance (Adhkar). Its inclusion of seeking refuge from the 'evil of the closest ones' (شر الأقربين - sharril-aqrabin) makes it particularly relevant when one feels vulnerable to harm, deception, or betrayal from those who are near and dear, such as family members, close friends, or trusted colleagues.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on each phrase. Ensure you understand the meaning behind the words you are uttering. It is best to raise your hands slightly when making this dua, as is customary for supplications, and to face the Qiblah if possible, though this is not a strict requirement. Maintain a state of sincerity and humility before Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encapsulates seeking Allah's protection against numerous evils, both tangible and intangible. Specifically, the phrase 'wa sharril-aqrabin' directly addresses the pain of betrayal and deception from those closest to us. Loved ones, by virtue of their proximity, can inflict the deepest wounds, whether through malice, misunderstanding, or carelessness. By seeking refuge in Allah from their 'evil,' we are asking Him to shield our hearts, our honour, and our affairs from any harm they might bring, whether intentional or not. This dua is a testament to the belief that ultimate safety and security lie only with Allah (SWT), even from those we trust the most.
