Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. And I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Wa a'udhu bika min jahdil-balaa', wa darakish-shaqaa', wa su'il-qadaa', wa shamatatil-a'daa'.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive refuge from various forms of tribulation. It shields us from the loss of Allah's favors, the decline of well-being, His wrath, and the harshness of trials that can lead to despair and misery. Seeking refuge in Allah from the 'rejoicing of enemies' also implies protection from circumstances that would bring them satisfaction at our expense, which can include our own spiritual downfall. It's a safeguard for both spiritual and worldly well-being.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach his companions to seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the grave and from the torment of the Fire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the Dajjal. He used to say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. And I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, the attainment of misery, the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies.'
