Hasan HadithAl-Mu'jam al-Awsat 6184

O Allah, make our children keepers of Your Book, guardians of Your limits, leaders in Your religion, supporters of Your party, friends of Your favors, supporters of Your pleasure, supporters of Your Messenger, and lovers of all Your allegiance. Make them righteous offspring from me. Place them under Your care, protection, and guardianship. Protect them from the evil of all that is bad, from the evil of Satan, from the evil of the ruler, and from the evil of this world and the Hereafter. Clothe them with the garments of health, well-being, and safety, and the soundness of religion, this world, and the Hereafter. And protect us through them from the evil of ourselves and the evil of others.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting at any time, especially during the quiet moments after salah, before sleeping, or when you feel a particular need to supplicate for your children. It's also incredibly fitting to make this dua during Ramadan, on the nights of Laylat al-Qadr, or during the blessed days of Hajj. Think of it as a spiritual investment in your children's future.

How to Read

Begin by making sincere intention for your children. Face the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Recite with conviction, believing that Allah hears your plea and has the power to grant it. You can repeat the dua multiple times, or focus on the key phrases you feel resonate most. Afterwards, gently blow on your children or on yourself while reciting parts of this dua, a practice mentioned for seeking protection.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful means of seeking Allah's protection and guidance for your children. It encompasses their religious and worldly well-being, asking that they become individuals who uphold Islam, serve Allah, and are protected from all harm, both seen and unseen. By seeking righteousness for them, you are essentially asking Allah to make them a source of ongoing reward for you even after your passing, as the Prophet ﷺ mentioned: 'When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.' (Sahih Muslim 1631).

Source & Authentication

The full context is less about a specific narrative and more about the nature of supplication. This detailed dua, attributed to the Prophet's ﷺ teachings, showcases the depth of his concern for the future generations. It's a testament to how deeply Islam values the upbringing and spiritual well-being of children, viewing them as a trust from Allah.
