اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ نَفْسِي مُطْمَئِنَّةً، وَتَوَفَّنِي وَأَنَا مُؤْمِنٌ

O Allah, make my soul content, and cause me to die as a believer.

Allahumma ij'al nafsi mutma'innah, wa tawaffani wa ana mu'min

When to Read

This is a profound dua for anyone seeking inner peace and stability. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or when you simply want to strengthen your reliance on Allah and seek contentment in all circumstances. It's a beautiful supplication to make daily, especially after prayers, to cultivate a tranquil heart.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus. Imagine your heart finding peace as you utter these words. Understand that true contentment comes from Allah alone. The phrase 'mutma'innah' refers to a soul that is settled, tranquil, and assured in its faith, free from excessive worry or agitation. Dying as a believer is the ultimate aspiration, so this dua encapsulates both present peace and eternal success.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah for two immense blessings: a content soul and a righteous end. A content heart is a cornerstone of faith, enabling us to face life's challenges with patience and gratitude. When our hearts are settled, we are less susceptible to the whispers of Shaytan that lead to discontent and ingratitude. The second part of the dua, asking to die as a believer, is the most crucial request for a Muslim, as it determines our fate in the Hereafter. This single supplication, taught by our beloved Prophet ﷺ, covers both worldly peace and ultimate salvation.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah in these words: 'Allahumma ihdini li-ahsanil-akhlaq, la yahdi li-ahsaniha illa anta, wa-swrif 'anni sayyi'aha, la yasrifu 'anni sayyi'aha illa anta, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal-'afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah, Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal-'afiyah fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stwur 'awrani wa-amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimall, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.' (O Allah, guide me to the best of character, for none can guide to the best of it except You, and turn me away from bad character, for none can turn away bad character from me except You. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what You know, and for protection from all evil. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs and my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and make me feel secure from anxieties. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being smitten from beneath me.) It was narrated from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Abu Darda, that he said: 'O Allah, make my soul content, and cause me to die as a believer.' So he was told: 'How do you supplicate to Allah like this?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicating with it.'
