Dua of the Prophet ﷺ Seeking Refuge from Four Things

Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 588

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hellfire, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of wealth and children.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannama, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhabi-l-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnati-d-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnati-l-mali wa-l-walad.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often recite, particularly after the Tashahhud in his prayers. It's a powerful way to start your day or end your prayers, seeking protection from immense spiritual and worldly trials. Reciting it reminds us to be mindful of the unseen punishments and the trials that can distract us from our purpose.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep reflection, understanding the gravity of what you are seeking refuge from. Utter the words clearly, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. It is recommended to say it after the Tashahhud, just before the Salam, as the Prophet ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from these specific things in that crucial moment of prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from these four things is a profound act of faith. The punishment of Hellfire and the grave are realities of the hereafter that we must prepare for. The trials of the Dajjal and the allure of wealth and children are significant tests in this life that can lead us astray if we are not grounded in our faith and reliance on Allah.
