O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leucoderma, madness, leprosy, and all terrible diseases.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-barasi wal-jununi wal-judhami wa sayyi'il-asqam

When to Read

This powerful supplication is for anyone feeling vulnerable to illness or simply wishing to proactively seek protection from debilitating diseases. Recite it in the morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ instructed us to seek refuge in Allah at the start and end of the day. It's particularly poignant during times of outbreaks or when one witnesses suffering from severe ailments.

How to Read

When reciting this dua, raise your hands slightly, as you would when making supplication. Focus your heart on Allah, the ultimate protector, and truly believe in His ability to safeguard you. Say it with sincerity and conviction. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to make this supplication facing the Qiblah, though this is not a strict requirement in all circumstances.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, we are following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This act of seeking refuge directly with Allah acknowledges His supreme power over all matters, including health and sickness. It’s a way of actively engaging with our faith, understanding that ultimate well-being comes from Him alone. The Prophet's ﷺ inclusion of specific ailments like leprosy and leucoderma, alongside the general category of 'terrible diseases,' shows the comprehensiveness of seeking Allah's protection against all forms of physical suffering.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leucoderma, madness, leprosy, and all terrible diseases.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1554 - Hasan). Another narration mentions: 'The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah from seven things: from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, blindness, a crippling old age, and death; and from the evil of Dajjal.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6347). While the latter hadith lists different categories, the essence of seeking refuge from severe afflictions remains consistent.
