Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5743

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا بِرِيقِ بَعْضِنَا، يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا

In the name of Allah, the soil of our land mixed with the saliva of some of us, may our sick be healed by the permission of our Lord.

Bismillahi, turbatu ardina biriqi ba'dina, yushfa saqeemunah, bi-idhn rabbina.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when visiting a sick person. It's an act of compassion and supplication, combining a physical action with a spiritual one. You can recite this while gently touching the forehead or afflicted part of the person you are seeking to heal, remembering that true healing is only from Allah.

How to Read

The Prophet ﷺ would often combine this dua with a physical action. He would take some soil from the ground, mix it with his own saliva (or that of the sick person), and then recite this dua while placing it on the afflicted area. This act is symbolic of the creation of man from soil and the reliance on Allah for life and health. It's important to have sincere intention and deep trust in Allah's power to heal as you make this dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This practice beautifully illustrates the holistic approach Islam takes towards health and well-being, integrating faith, prayer, and tangible actions. By invoking Allah's name and acknowledging His power, this dua seeks a cure that is both physical and spiritual. It reminds us that even in our attempts to help others, our ultimate reliance must be on the Creator, who is Al-Shafi (The Healer). The Prophet's ﷺ action teaches us empathy and the importance of actively seeking ways to comfort and pray for the sick, drawing strength from Allah's blessings inherent in the earth and our own beings.

Source & Authentication

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when a person complained to the Prophet (ﷺ) about some ailment or a wound, the Prophet (ﷺ) would place his finger upon it and say: 'Bismillahi, turbatu ardina biriqi ba'dina, yushfa saqeemunah, bi-idhn rabbina.' (In the name of Allah, the soil of our land mixed with the saliva of some of us, may our sick be healed by the permission of our Lord.)
