اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالتُّقَىٰ وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَىٰ

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This powerful dua is especially fitting for the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. As we enter this blessed month, striving for closeness to Allah (SWT) is paramount. The Prophet's ﷺ personal supplication reflects a comprehensive request for what truly matters: understanding what pleases Allah (Huda), fulfilling our obligations to Him (Tuqa), maintaining our purity in thought and deed ('Afaf), and being content with His provision (Ghina). You can make this a central part of your morning supplications throughout these days, or whenever you feel the need to reconnect with these fundamental aspects of faith.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full presence of heart. Raise your hands as the Prophet ﷺ used to do when making dua. Imagine Allah (SWT) hearing you and granting your request. Understand each word: seeking clear direction in life, developing deep consciousness of Him, preserving your dignity and modesty, and finding contentment and independence from need, whether material or spiritual. Repeat it with conviction, especially during the significant acts of worship of Dhul Hijjah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a complete spiritual and material well-being. 'Guidance' (Huda) means understanding the truth and acting upon it. 'Piety' (Tuqa) is the consciousness of Allah that prevents us from sinning. 'Chastity' ('Afaf) refers to abstaining from what is unlawful, whether it's in one's gaze, speech, or actions, and maintaining self-respect. 'Richness' (Ghina) signifies contentment and being free from the need of others, a richness of the heart that comes from reliance on Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself made this dua often, indicating its profound importance for a Muslim's life, especially during these virtuous days when our deeds are greatly rewarded.
