All praise is due to Allah for what He has bestowed and for what He has tested. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Every matter of importance which is not begun with 'Alhamdu lillah' (All praise is due to Allah) is cut short (in its blessing).' In another narration, he (peace be upon him) said: 'Every speech or word or action that does not begin with the remembrance of Allah and His praise is deficient (or imperfect).' Abu Dawud said: 'The most complete chain of narration for this meaning is the one transmitted by Hafs bin 'Umar, from Hammam, from Abu Sa'id al-Makburi, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Alhamdu lillah 'ala ma an'ama wa 'ala ma ibtala' (All praise is due to Allah for what He has bestowed and for what He has tested), and this is the wording narrated by Abu Dawud. This hadith emphasizes the importance of starting significant matters with praise and remembrance of Allah, ensuring blessings and completeness.
