I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye.

U'eezuka bikalimatillāhit-tāmmah min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli 'aynin lāmmah

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recited by a parent or guardian for a newborn baby. It's a profound way to initiate the child's life under Allah's protection, fostering a natural instinct to seek refuge in Him from the very beginning. It can be recited daily, especially after prayers, or whenever you feel the need to invoke Allah's shield over your little one.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus on the meaning. Ideally, place your hand on the child's forehead or body as you make the supplication. Imagine Allah's immense protection enveloping the child. The act of reciting it is a beautiful expression of your love and reliance on Allah for your child's well-being, shaping their initial spiritual environment.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a powerful shield for the newborn. It invokes Allah's perfect words for protection against unseen evils like devils (shayatin) and harmful influences ('ayn lammah). By making this a regular practice, we are essentially guiding our children, even in their earliest moments, to recognize that their ultimate safety and comfort lie with Allah, nurturing their natural fitrah (innate disposition) to worship and seek refuge in their Creator.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek Allah's protection for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain, saying: 'I seek protection for you both with Allah's perfect words, from every Satan and from every beast, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Abraham used to seek Allah's protection for Ishmael and Isaac (with these very words).'

Dua for a Newborn's Healthy Eyesight and Vision

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the helplessness of old age. And I seek refuge in You from the trials of the grave, and the punishment of the grave, and the trials of the Fire, and the punishment of the Fire, and the evil of the trials of wealth, and the evil of the trials of poverty, and the evil of the trials of the False Messiah (Dajjal). O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and keep me far from my sins as You have kept far the East and the West. O Allah, forgive me my mistake, and my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better of me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my mistake and my deliberate (sin), and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and whatever You know better of me. You are the One Who sends forth and You are the One Who delays; there is none worthy of worship but You.
