أُعِيذُهُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every envious eye.
U'eezuhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hāmmatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lāmmatin
When to Read
This dua is traditionally recited for newborns, especially when they are unwell or to seek Allah's protection for their overall well-being, including the development of their senses and physical abilities. It can be recited daily upon waking or before sleeping, or whenever a parent feels the need to supplicate for their child's health and protection.
How to Read
This supplication is typically recited by the parent or guardian, blowing gently onto the child after reciting, with a heart full of faith and reliance on Allah. It's important to ensure the recitation is clear and the intention is sincere, asking Allah to bestow His protection and blessings upon the child. The wording 'U'eezuhu' is in the masculine singular, referring to a male child. For a female child, the pronunciation would be 'U'eezuhā'. However, the general meaning and benefit extend to both genders, and the singular form is often used universally.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them), is a powerful supplication for seeking Allah's complete protection. By invoking Allah's perfect words, we seek refuge from harmful influences, be they spiritual (devils), physical (beasts/harmful creatures), or the evil eye. This protection is comprehensive and can encompass the child's physical development, including the healthy functioning of their senses (sight, hearing, etc.) and the proper development of motor skills, as these are all aspects of the overall well-being Allah grants.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (may Allah be pleased with them) saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every animal which is harmful, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'It was the Prophet's practice to say this (to seek Allah's protection for) Al-Hasan and Al-Husain.'
