O Allah, make him blessed, and teach him the Book, and make him understand the religion, and grant him judgment and wisdom.

Allahumma ij'alhu mubarakann, wa 'allimhu al-kitaba, wa faqqihhu fid-deeni, warzuqhu hukman wa hikmatann.

This beautiful dua is recited when a child is born, specifically after the adhan and iqamah are called into the newborn's ears. It can also be recited by parents and guardians regularly for the righteous upbringing of their children, seeking Allah's guidance in instilling Islamic values from the very beginning.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt supplication. It is recommended to face the Qiblah if possible, and to raise your hands in supplication while reciting. The intention is to seek Allah's blessing and guidance for the child's spiritual and intellectual development according to Islamic teachings. When reciting it for a newborn, it is traditionally done after calling the adhan and iqamah into the child's ears.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive prayer for a child's life. By asking Allah to make the child blessed ('mubarak'), we seek abundance and goodness in all aspects of their life. Teaching them the 'Book' (Al-Kitab) refers to the Quran and knowledge in general. Making them understand the 'religion' (Deen) signifies fostering deep comprehension and practice of Islam. Finally, asking for 'judgment' (Hukm) and 'wisdom' (Hikmah) prompts Allah to grant them sound reasoning, discernment, and the ability to apply knowledge correctly, which are essential for navigating life according to Islamic principles.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Busr Al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) supplicated for a group of people saying: Allahumma ij'alhu mubarakann, wa 'allimhu al-kitaba, wa faqqihhu fid-deeni, warzuqhu hukman wa hikmatann. (O Allah, make him blessed, and teach him the Book, and make him understand the religion, and grant him judgment and wisdom.)

Dua for a Newborn's Healthy Eyesight and Vision

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the helplessness of old age. And I seek refuge in You from the trials of the grave, and the punishment of the grave, and the trials of the Fire, and the punishment of the Fire, and the evil of the trials of wealth, and the evil of the trials of poverty, and the evil of the trials of the False Messiah (Dajjal). O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and keep me far from my sins as You have kept far the East and the West. O Allah, forgive me my mistake, and my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better of me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my mistake and my deliberate (sin), and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and whatever You know better of me. You are the One Who sends forth and You are the One Who delays; there is none worthy of worship but You.
