رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] and ease for me my task and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.
Rabbishrah li sadri * Wa yassir li amri * Wahlul 'uqdatan min lisani * Yafqahu qawli
When to Read
While this profound supplication was made by Prophet Musa ﷺ when he was commanded to convey Allah's message to Pharaoh, parents can lovingly recite this dua for their newborn or young child. It is a beautiful way to ask Allah for a child to be blessed with clarity of speech, eloquence, and the ability to articulate thoughts and feelings effectively. You can recite it anytime you make dua for your child, especially in moments of sincerity after salah or when spending time with your baby, gently blowing over them after recitation if you wish.
How to Read
Recite these verses with presence of heart and conviction, understanding the deep meaning behind each phrase. Focus on the intention of seeking Allah's blessing for your child's ability to communicate clearly and eloquently. As with all duas, sincerity (ikhlas) is key. You can repeat it multiple times, asking Allah to grant your child a clear and pleasant voice, making their words easy for others to comprehend.
Virtues & Benefits
By reciting this dua, you are essentially asking Allah to grant your child the noble quality of clear and effective communication, a trait highly valued in Islam for conveying truth and fostering understanding. This supplication, taught to us through the Qur'an by Prophet Musa ﷺ, demonstrates the importance of eloquent speech. When a child is blessed with clarity of expression, it can ease their path in learning, interacting with others, and eventually, in conveying any message of goodness they may carry. It's a prayer for intellectual and expressive clarity, which brings immense benefit in both worldly and religious affairs.
